Tonight this is where I want to be. Under the cool sheets with a flashlight and a book.
Growing up, I can remember trying to read while my sister was sleeping. It was my own little world underneath that blanket. In my jammies, with my favorite book, a flashlight, and most of the time one or two dogs were under there with me!
Mom would yell for us to go to bed and when we had to turn the lights off I would wait until I thought she was asleep (or at least until I thought she wouldn't check on us anymore. Out from under my mattress the book I had hidden would come out, the blanket would go over my head to "hide" the glow of the flashlight, and my little adventures would begin!
Looking back, I know that Mom had to know what I was up to...but I sure felt sneaky!
How long has it been since you have read a favorite book under the covers?

Oh you brought back one of my most favourite memories from childhood!!! If I hadn't remembered the flashlight, or it was upstairs but the battery was dead, I'd roll over on my stomach and push the book along the floor so I could read by the hall light which my little sister always insisted needed to be kept on. Sweet, sweet, sweet!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember ever reading under the covers. What I do remember is constantly reading. We weren't allowed to watch TV (though, of course, we would sneak and watch it) and when we were teenagers, if we wanted to watch TV, we had to 'earn' time by reading. I used to buy paperbacks by how fat they were. I would buy 10 at a time. This is when they cost no more than $1.95 each. Ah, those were the days....
ReplyDeleteI can remember doing that, I was and am book mad.

ps the photo is really fab.
i would do this almost every night. i would imagine fairies being under there with me. i would read my favorite adventure books this way. it was so much fun to sneak and read, it made the book even better. i would also find little nooks around the house and just imagine and enjoy whatever book i was reading at the time. there's nothing like creating your own private little space, especially when your a child. so much fun. also, thank you for your very nice comment. you have a wonderful blog. have a lovely evening!
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
